August
This month: your first movie! We went to see Winnie the Pooh together – a 9:15am showing – and you loved it. I wasn’t sure if you would sit through the whole thing, but it was only 1h7m long and you didn’t want to leave when it ended. (And now you point out “Pooh!” on your diapers.) You were sick for the first time in a while with a virus that went around class and had your 18 month check-up with Dr. Shang. You weighed in at 28 lbs and measured 33 inches tall which means you’re back on your height and weight curve at around the 75th percentile. We went to Crane Beach for the first time and you liked walking out through the water to the sandbar there. On the way home, we had an early fried seafood dinner, but you wouldn’t try the clams or oysters and only wanted your hot dog. Grammie and Pop-pop came for a visit to do some work around the house and you learned to say “wallpaper.” On their way home, they dropped you off at Rara and Papa’s house for the weekend while we went to Matt and Molly’s wedding in Vermont. You were great for them and had a fun visit with your cousins too. We went to a story time on the Greenway in the North End and you picked out an octopus book to bring home. Daddy finally made it to a concert in City Square Park with us and you alternated between dancing up a storm and playing with your blow-up globe that one of the banks was handing out. We ordered a bike seat for you and (after a lot of hard work) attached it to the back of Daddy’s bike. We went on our first bike ride around the Charles and you really liked when we were moving (saying “wheee!” and pointing out all the cars and trucks) but were not a fan of stopping, getting on and off or wearing your helmet. The Kents came for a visit and you enjoyed having Eleanor around to play with for a few days. We went with them to the Children’s Museum and you had the most fun there I’ve seen so far. We went to Jen D’Agostino’s wedding and you stayed with Jess and Lily for the day. You went to Lily’s school performance and Adam’s birthday party and the report was that you were great and had lots of fun but didn’t eat very much (big surprise). At the end of the month, we went to a Ben Rudnick concert in the South End and you ate a big picnic dinner while dancing to the music.
You have really added a ton of words this month and my new favorites are ambulance “am-you-eh” and window “ninnow.” You love music and dancing, especially DJ’ing with the ipod from your stool perch (where you kick one leg out to the side) and running around in a circle. You’ve gone through a period of obsession over Daddy’s guitar and ukulele (“lay-lee”). Your favorite show is most certainly the Fresh Beat Band, although Blue’s Clues is still a close second, and you love watching Finding Nemo and A Bug’s Life. You love your “bike hat,” although not actually wearing it on the bike. You LOVE running and rolling down the hill at the Monument at full speed and once you get tired, you pull us over to the ice cream truck for a creamcicle before we head home. You also continue to love the carousel by Faneuil Hall and grip the pole as hard as you can and cry when the ride ends. Pop-pop seems to have the magic touch with getting you to eat food – first with bread, then hot dogs and now bacon. You are also still in love with pickles and ketchup and if either of those things are on your plate, you will eat little else. Hot dogs and applesauce are a sure bet for food you will eat these days and we finally got you to eat chicken (albeit only in the shape of dinosaur nuggets). You point out letters now when you see them, but every letter is an “A” and when asked the color of something, you always say green “geen!” The cutest development this month is a newfound affection for stuffed animals – you now sleep with the Grinch, your white polar bear and your brown teddy bear, although in general, you are not particular with who you will cuddle.
