January & February 2012

Let’s lead off with your FIRE TRUCK 2nd BIRTHDAY PARTY! We invited about ten of your friends plus grandparents, aunts and uncles. Smokin’ Joe gave us a tour of an antique fire truck and took you all for a ride around the neighborhood. It was a big hit!

In January, you started taking gymnastics classes which meant you were trying to do forward rolls everywhere and always saying “tuck ya head.” You hate getting stamps on your feet after class from Miss Erica, but you love taking your socks off when we get home to see Tigger or Mickey Mouse on your toes. We went to a baby petting zoo at a local toy store and you could not get enough of the baby goats. You wanted to sit in their pen and let them sniff and lick you all day. Grammie and Pop-pop came for a visit for your birthday and bought you a remote control fire truck that you play with everyday. You started fake sneezing, coughing and blowing your nose (usually in imitation of Daddy), which was pretty funny. Counting started with, “one, two, two…” and eventually progressed to “one, two, three, five…” You tell us, “Wrong way!” if we’re not going in the direction you want and started saying, “Oh, hi!” to things (like, “Oh, hi snail!”) You have most of your animals down, but you sometimes confuse pigs with cows and turtles with frogs. Daddy practiced the ABC’s with you a lot in the bath and you surprised us one night by pretty much making it from A to Z. You have continued your obsession with monkey drinks and the Fresh Beat Band (even talking about Twist and Kiki in your sleep a few times). You often ask for “fishy cahcas” as your snack. You became mildly obsessed with a Curious George anthology (especially a story about a dump truck) and wanted us to read all ten stories every night before bed. I continue to try to leave you sleepy but still awake in bed but you have started asking for “more snuggles” when I try to leave… and how can I say no to that?

In February, we finished your new playroom and you love to play in there now with your trains and trucks. One of your favorite sayings is how the “digger scoopy yocks.” You went to your very first Celtics game with Daddy and sat in the second row. We thought you would only make it through the first half since it was right in the middle of your nap time, but you loved it and stayed for the whole game. We had a couple of really rough days which I’m going to chalk up to a developmental leap because soon afterwards, you basically started speaking in sentences. The “bye-bye” song we learned in class when you were just an infant has suddenly started working and has successfully got us out of the playground many times without a tantrum. You also say buh-bye to everything when it’s time to go upstairs for a bath at night (“Buh-bye Winnie Pooh – see ya later!”) You love bath time and especially hiding under the covers after bath and sometimes playing with a flashlight. You always ask for “more hiding” when we try to get you into bed (although “more” sounds an awful lot like “Roy”). If we ask you to do “scary eyes,” you point your chin down at the ground, eyes up at us and look very serious… and it is pretty scary. You won’t let Daddy read any stories at bedtime and when he tries to, you push the book out of his hand toward me and say, “No, mommy read.” When you wake up from your nap, you are almost always talking about garbage trucks or airplanes, which continue to be among your favorite things, although sometimes we hear, “No, no Nemo – don’t touch the boat!” which maybe means you’re watching too many Disney movies. After months of fighting the stroller, you are suddenly perfectly fine with riding in the Bob (although still want no part of the umbrella stroller). And thank God, because you are getting really heavy (31.5 lbs and 35 inches at your 2 year check-up)!
