May 2012

(Look at me, on time with a blog post.) May has been a fun month – and thankfully a lot cooler than early spring with its 80 degree temps. In the beginning of the month, we partied with Kelsey Tuttle for her 3rd birthday and met little sis Emily for the first time. We went to the Acton Children’s Museum for the first time with Max and Eva (and the very well-behaved babies, Wyatt and Zoe) and you loved it. The next few days, you asked to go back “to the museum with Eeba and Max” many, many times. We went to our first Pawsox game of the season, which you also loved and you got to meet the Pawsox mascot and take home a baseball. It ended up being a really long game and we only made it until about the 8th inning (or 9pm) before you were finally ready to head to Ra and Papa’s house. We spent Mother’s Day at Jess and Edwin’s house and you spent almost the whole day bouncing on the trampoline with your cousins. The next weekend we went to a local parade and carnival. The parade you loved, but for some reason, you weren’t into the carnival rides – even the carousel which you normally can’t get enough of. We chalked it up to an off day and gave some other little kids the rest of our tickets on the way out. We went to Amy and Max’s house for a play date, where we headed to a playground and had lunch at the train station. You guys did great until everyone wanted to play with the same Thomas train and then we had a little too-close-to-naptime meltdown. You love hanging out at Amy’s house and in their backyard and it makes me wonder if a move to the suburbs is in our eventual future. Over Memorial Day weekend, we went with Matt & Molly to visit the Larsens down in Williamsburg. You loved playing with Anna and were “so gentle to baby Mae.” We spent lots of time at the pool and playground, took a drive to the beach, walked around Colonial Williamsburg and you even spent the evening with a sitter so the adults could go out to dinner. (The report was that you made her read you a lot of books before bed, but otherwise were fine. I don’t think she could understand a lot of what you were trying to tell her, but Anna translated.) Besides Anna, your best buddy was “Potayo” and you also loved DREW!DREW!DREW! When we got back, we went to the circus with Jackie and Cole – your favorite part was the elephants.

Bed time and nap time have been so easy and long these days, which has been so nice in month 7 of pregnancy. You even sleep later than me, which lets me get up and shower before you wake up. You try to count, but it always goes “1…2…3…5…4…7…8…5…4!” no matter how many things there are. You can just about recite all of your favorite books, which these days include, “Where the Wild Things Are,” “Madeline,” “Olivia,” the Bigsby books from Hallmark, “Tough Trucks,” “Chick,” and “Roadwork.” My favorite new word that you say is “polky-yots” for polka dots and you always ask us, “How color?” when you want to quiz us on what color something is. When it’s raining outside, you tell me, “Car is raining,” or “Street is raining,” instead of, “It’s raining on the car.” You often tell us that animals or people or even inanimate objects like trucks are “so scared.” All puppets are “muppets” which is probably from when we took you to see The Muppets at the movies a few months ago. You can’t get enough of popcorn and “shakemilks” and you ask for both on a daily basis. You sing along to songs like Allee Galoo Galoo and Skip to My Lou and know all the words to the choruses of Catch that Train, Big Green Tractor and Amarillo Sky, three of your favorite songs. You’re still mostly ignoring the fact that you have a sibling on the way and tell me to “close it up” if I try to show you my belly, but you have been really curious and gentle with the other babies we’ve been hanging out with, so at least that part is hopeful. 🙂
