January 2013
Ok, we’re going with shorter commentary this month, with more next month (I promise) because… well, I’m tired. I think six months of sleep deprivation have officially caught up with me!
Archer, you started rolling back to front mid-month so now you can go in both directions. You haven’t quite worked out that this can get you places, though, and that’s probably a good thing. I’m not sure I’m ready for you to be mobile! You are so happy and excited to see Sebastien (when he’s not climbing on top of you) and no one makes you laugh quite like he does. We moved you to your crib for some naps and the start of the night, but then you kicked your bedtime up before Sebastien’s so we moved you back out and into the pack and play. We can’t quite trust that Sebastien will be quiet after his bath – he usually wants to hide and play and read lots of books – and we don’t want to wake you up 10 minutes after you fall asleep. But as soon as you can hang until story time, back to your crib you will go! We started you on solids and you LOVE them. So far you’re only into purees… you like picking up chunks and trying to get them into your mouth, but you’re not quite sure what to do with them once they’re in there. Your first official food was homemade applesauce, followed quickly by sweet potatoes, bananas, avocados, green beans, peas, prunes, peaches and pears. So far, you haven’t found a food you don’t like. AND the big news is that your two bottom teeth came in on 1/31, just in time for Sebastien’s third birthday!
Sebastien, you are officially three. With your newfound maturity, you have decided we are “mom” and “dad” instead of “mommy” and “daddy.” Everything has a “mom” at the end, like, “How about more lemalade, mom,” and “Want to play trains, mom.” You decided you wanted to be called “Seb,” then a few days later decided you were NOT Seb, you were Sebastien. We have been enjoying our Thursday play dates while Jessica watches Archer. Sometimes we go to a museum, sometimes we meet up with friends and sometimes we schedule things like haircuts that are a little easier without a baby in tow. On another note, Dad would like to note that in the lead up to the Super Bowl, this conversation happened:
S: I’m the quarterback.
Dad: What number is on the back of your shirt?
S: 6. I’m gonna zoom it.
So, when you are old enough to pick your number, he says you should pick six. 🙂
We celebrated your third birthday with a bouncy house party and A LOT of kids. We bounced and played, ate pizza and cupcakes and sang happy birthday. It went super well and everyone had a blast (and took great naps afterward). We prepped you with a “social story” – these have been working really well for you. You seem to do much better and have much less anxiety when you know what is coming. A trip to the dentist was the first one we tried and you were a rockstar. The first thing you wanted to know was where the x-ray machine was and you only cried at the very end when we were leaving because you wanted your prize to be a green army guy instead of yellow. We got you a pet fish for your birthday, which you appropriately named Pet Fish. So far, he is still alive. Let’s hope I can say the same thing next month.
